Eye of the Temple
Eye of the Temple is one of the best examples of a game designed from the ground-up for VR – it’s a triumphant room-scale platformer on Quest. In this Indiana Jones-inspired adventure, you’ll begin outside a large temple with a whip in one hand and torch in the other. Work your way deeper into the temple by completing puzzles and navigating platforming obstacles along the way.
The genius part of Eye of the Temple is that the room-scale approach means almost all movement is real around your play space. Some clever design tricks ensure you never have to worry about walking out of your play space or into your guardian (which also makes it a great experience for those who are starting out with VR). Be warned though: you’ll need a decent amount of space – Eye of the Temple requires a minimum play area of at least 2m x 2m.

Samba de Amigo: Virtual Party
There’s plenty of rhythm games available on VR headsets, but Samba de Amigo: Virtual Party is a compelling new member of the line-up. Marking SEGA’s first major foray into VR, Virtual Party brings the classic Samba de Amigo franchise into a new medium. You’ll be shaking your maracas to the beat, lining up with six markers in front of you, as well as making poses or completing movements to build combo and achieve a high score.
There’s 40 songs in the base game, including tracks from high-profile artists like Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, Rina Sawayama, Ricky Martin and more. It’s a great selection that leans heavily into 2010s upbeat pop – it’s hard to resist a rhythm game that includes Nicki, Ari and Jessie’s iconic pop girl team-up Bang Bang. The biggest drawback is the fairly lackluster multiplayer options, but Virtual Party is still engaging enough to prove that the classic franchise is a perfect fit for VR.

With a depth perception sensor, Quest 3 becomes a device for mixed reality experiences.
As it was revealed on 27th of September at Meta Connect 2023, the part of the show was dedicated to Meta Quest 3, and the Presence Platform.
In short, here’s what we’re getting.
Pancake Lenses
Meta Quest Pro was announced last year with pancake lenses, which Quest 3 has now adopted to increase resolution by almost 30% while also slimming down the headset design.
Why is this such a big deal? Apart from thinner and lighter design (which allows for longer sessions), the package lenses have wider field of view (FOV) and better optics and image quality.
Room Automapping
Quest 3 automatically maps your space and understands elements like walls and furniture using new color and depth cameras/sensors. Games can blend virtual and physical worlds.
This is similar to Apple’s Vision Pro since Quest 3 will recognize the physical objects in your space automatically. The process will eliminate the need of setting up your guardian manually.
Augments
You’ll be able to place virtual screens and objects anywhere using «Augments» — persistent digital objects anchored in space.
This shows the possible signs of how mixed reality is going to influence our productive lives. We are kind of getting sick of the monitors that take a lot of our physical space, right?
With Augments, you’ll be able to anchor specific dynamic animations on physical objects around your space.
Gaming Experiences on XBox
Together with virtual desktop expansion, gamers will have a lot to look forward to. Xbox cloud gaming is coming to Quest in December, 2023 (just the time for Christmas!) allowing hundreds of Xbox games to be played on a massive virtual screen anywhere.
More than 100 new Quest titles are coming from XBox to Quest 3 with at least half of them featuring mixed reality experiences. Popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Ghostbusters are being adapted.
Mark Zuckerberg, also announced a subscription service called Meta Quest+ which will provide you with two free games per month. Sounds like a Netflix subscription or in Meta’s best case, perhaps even rivalry and competition to the Steam gaming platform but focused on XR titles.
When it comes to gaming Meta bets on new games such as: Roblox, Assassin’s Creed Nexus, and Stranger Things.

OK, I’m not a big fan of simulators, but this cooking game is elite! I wondered why this game garnered a rating of 9 out of 10 stars on Steam (it’s also a PCVR game, too). As such, I decided to play the game myself on the Quest 2 to see what the hype is all about.
Cooking Simulator VR thrusts you into a beautiful, modern kitchen and lets you whip up a multitude of dishes from fancy steak dinners to simplistic french fries-and-fried-chicken lunches. Don’t worry if you’re not a chef! You’ll be given a guide and recipe, so you’ll know whether you need to make your way to the deep fryer or stove. Everything feels so real with this game, from the way you shake the pan while caramelizing onions to using tongs to flip your salmon. You can opt for just a relaxing time in the kitchen, practicing your culinary skill, or you can kick it up a notch and start rolling out dinners for your restaurant guests. I cannot recommend Cooking Simulator VR enough!

Escape rooms are perfect VR fodder. Enclosed environments to experience either seated or standing and clues to solve in order to stave off an early demise. I Expect You To Die 2 elevates this to an exquisite art form, improving on the already excellent original with a variety of nefarious spy traps and puzzles that would make a Bond villain green with envy that they didn’t come up with it first. All six missions take place across a sprawling cinematic narrative with a classic brilliant spy thriller story and entertaining characters. But truthfully, before we can even mention success, this experience is all about the ways you’re going to expire. Whether that’s via grenades, poisonous gas, or an irresistibly placed explosive cigar, your experience fighting against the title will seem fruitless at first. Keep going though and this is a wickedly inventive puzzler. Rest in pieces.

I found the first two levels quite slow but after that I was hooked, the swinging and climbing is done so well.

Walkabout Mini Golf
Mini golf is actually something that could and should work quite well in VR. Walkabout Mini Golf is all the proof you need; it’s an accurate representation of the game that goes beyond what’s possible in real life whilst also remaining authentic throughout.
This ticks all the boxes – plenty of courses, extensive multiplayer support, different themes for each level and, above all, pinpoint physics that are arguably better than the real thing because there’s none of the small snags you’d find on the surface of physical courses. Hard to fault! Plus, the game receives ongoing support from developers Mighty Coconut, with regular free and paid DLC courses added over time.

You pick a class and tackle randomly generated dungeons, but the game’s punishing difficulty means sessions can last anywhere from a few minutes to multiple hours. Demeo instantly cemented itself at launch as one of the best games on the Quest platform, but since then it’s only got better with more content. Free updates from Resolution Games have given players all new campaigns to play through, such as Reign of Madness, Curse of the Serpent Lord and more. Plus, mixed reality support on Quest 3 is one of the best ways to play the game – especially when combined with controller-free hand tracking and colocation for local multiplayer.
Demeo is a must-have for any Quest 3 owner.

This mind-bending puzzle game redefined the limits of first-person VR puzzles, featuring a staggering array of creative scenarios and scale-based puzzles. What follows is a set of mind-bending scenarios that nearly break you brain at every turn, paired with a poignant story about self-acceptable. There is no interaction at all with your environment. In fact, the mixed reality mode can be turned off so that you’re just working in a blue void.
- Espire 2: Harness your spy skills to combat enemy soldiers infiltrating your home.
- Demeo: For enthusiasts of Dungeons and Dragons, this offers the chance to play on a vibrant, living gameboard positioned on your dining table. Review: this VR turn-based RPG is polished, and fun to play, with many touches to really bring the feel of tabletop RPG, such as cover pages for the adventures that look like covers for Dungeons & Dragons modules. But it’s a lot simpler than pen and paper D&D. Demeo is designed to be multiplayer but you can create private rooms for you and your friends, or you can even play solo in Skirmish mode, where you control 1 to 4 characters yourself. There are currently 5 adventures (a sixth is on the way) with 3 levels each and each level takes about 2 hours to play. The levels change with every playthrough, so adventures can be replayed. One criticism is that after the tutorial, the adventures themselves are not easy at all. Even with my experience playing Demeo Battles, one of my party members got killed early in the level. But bottom line: if you like turn-based RPG adventures, get Demeo. If you prefer turn-based strategy, get Demeo Battles (see above).

Asgard’s Wrath 2
Asgard’s Wrath 2 offers impressive scale on an uncharted level previously unseen on Quest headsets. It features many incredible moments of bespoke gameplay, expert cinematic direction and sequences of god-like proportions. However, it also wraps its best moments around an open world that feels fairly unsatisfying to explore and an RPG structure that sometimes feels as though it gets in the way of the main campaign.
There’s also very few Quest 3-specific upgrades in the game, featuring textures, lighting and an overall graphics presentation aimed at Quest 2. This game isn’t a tight linear experience – there’s more of those below – but if you’re looking for an expansive, near-overwhelming RPG to dig into, then Asgard’s Wrath 2 is the best offering of that on Quest 3.
