XPG Xenia 14: Design and features

Source: Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Windows Central)

Made up entirely of a magnesium alloy, the XPG Xenia 14 is anything but heavy and bulky. It weighs in at just 2.14 pounds (970g) and measures less than 0.6 inches (15mm) thin. It’s almost comical how airy this laptop feels when you’re carrying it around. Here’s the caveat: Magnesium alloy isn’t as durable or rigid as full aluminum. If you’re coming from something like the like I am, the Xenia 14 might feel a bit flimsy. I haven’t used the laptop long enough to say for sure how well it stands up to everyday use, but I can say for sure that the laptop seems very carefully designed.

It’s based on the same reference chassis as the Schenker Vision 14, which is available in European markets. Previous XPG laptops have also used reference design to good effect, and there’s nothing different here. If you’re in search of a laptop that you can slip into a bag or under an arm, you’re hardly going to notice this one is riding along with you.

The outside of the laptop is fairly plain, with only a triangular XPG logo on the side of the lid. The black paint does pick up fingerprints and smudges fairly easily, but they also wipe off without much effort. It’s certainly not as sticky as a ThinkPad’s soft-touch finish. There’s a bit of a wedge shape along the bottom to make the laptop look a bit thinner, though it really doesn’t need it. Thick rubber feet keep the laptop from slipping around on a smooth tabletop.

Opening the laptop reveals an enormous Precision touchpad and sizable keyboard. The touchpad looks to be about the same size as what you’d find on an , giving you plenty of space for Windows 10 gestures. Its glass surface is smooth, it tracks well, and the click is snappy if just a bit hollow. A touch sensor in the corner allows for a quick toggle of touch pickup on the pad, likely to help deal with any accidental touches if you’re using an external mouse.

The keyboard makes good use of the space available, stretching almost from edge to edge. Keys are spaced well, and they seem to have just a bit more travel than the XPS 13. That should mean about 1.2 to 1.3mm of key travel for the Xenia 14. In any case, there’s a nice soft bottom on the deck and plenty of bounce to the keys. I typed thousands of words and didn’t have any problems. A white backlight (off, bright, and brighter) helps with working after hours. Do note that the up and down arrow keys are half size and the navigation keys — Pg Up, Pg Down, Home, and End — are doubled up and accessible with the Fn key.

A common trend with Ultrabooks as they slim down is the removal of ports. Thunderbolt 4 has become the modern standard for thin and light PCs, but it has also become the only port (save maybe a 3.5mm audio jack) on a lot of devices. Yes, you can connect one of the for even more connectivity, but the Xenia 14 will keep you from entering dongle hell.

The left side includes USB-C 3.2 (Gen 2), one USB-A 3.0 (Gen 1), a UHS-I SD card reader, 3.5mm audio combo jack, and a Kensington lock slot. The right side has a Thunderbolt 4, USB-A 3.0 (Gen 1), HDMI 2.0b, and a barrel power connector. You can also use the USB-C or Thunderbolt 4 port for charging, though the laptop comes with the barrel AC adapter. This is a very generous selection of ports that should keep you connected to all your favorite accessories.

Speakers are located on either side of the bottom of the laptop. They’re not particularly impressive, but they’re better than I was expecting from something that weighs so little. The XPG Prime Lite app doesn’t include any audio tuning, so you’re stuck with the default sound. The mid and highs are good, but don’t expect a whole lot of bass. For conference calls and listening to music while you work it will fare well.

The front-facing HD camera has decent color and seems to deal well with exposure. Like the audio, it’s not the best but it’s also not the worst. For video chats it should suffice. There’s unfortunately no camera shutter for added privacy, but the array does include an IR camera for Windows Hello. It works as it should for quick and easy logins.

Memory Specifications ◕ Understanding CPU limitations with memory

When looking at maximum memory speed supported for a specific motherboard or system, one thing that many people forget to take into account is the CPU.  With modern CPUs the memory controller is built directly into the CPU itself, which means different types of CPUs may support different speeds of memory. Most CPUs have quite a lot of memory in the form of cache. It can be many Megabytes, all on-chip. Which memory does Intel Core i7-11370H support? Our comparison service will help you understand. CPU memory is important so do not forget to check the amount of memory in the processor. Think about the following as well:

  • Does CPU have memory?
  • How does CPU access memory?
  • How important is CPU in terms of memory?
  • What type of memory directly communicates with the CPU?
  • How to clear CPU memory?
  • What is a good CPU memory?

Also you might neeed a cpu memory cleaner, so take care about that. And it is impossible not to find out how compatible the selected RAM is with your processor!

XPG Xenia 14: Price, availability, and specs

Source: Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Windows Central)

ADATA provided Windows Central a review unit of the XPG Xenia 14. This laptop is set to launch Aug. 20 on Amazon and Newegg, and there’s a pre-order campaign going on right now until launch. You can get the Core i5 version of the laptop for about $1,100, which is about $100 less than the usual price. However, there’s a bundle attached to make the deal that much sweeter. At Amazon you’ll get a free XPG gaming headset, backpack, and oversized mousepad. At Newegg, you get the same three bundled accessories, but you also get a $50 Newegg gift card.

Intel Core i7 versions of the laptop — which I have for review — cost about $1,350 and are not included in the pre-order bundle promotion. Following are the exact specs as found in the review unit I tested.

Prices and Availability

The new 14-inch Schenker Vision 14 E22 notebook can now be configured freely on bestware.com. The model with Intel’s Core i7-12700H, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, 3K IPS display with 90 Hz and 53 Wh battery, which comes with 8 GB DDR4-3200 RAM and a 500 GB Samsung 980 SSD in the base variant, makes the start.

The price starts here at an MSRP of 1,842 Euros. The upgrade to the 99-Watt battery costs an additional 89 Euros and is supposed to be offered until the beginning of September 2022. Until then, there will also be the version with an integrated Intel Xe graphics chip, which starts at a price of 1,659 Euros – including the bigger battery. Schenker also gives a full 36-month warranty on its laptops purchased via its own platform.

XPG Xenia 14: Performance and battery

Source: Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Windows Central)

Like the other XPG laptops, the Xenia 14 doesn’t come with any added bloatware. This is an uncommon practice with laptops that focus on value pricing. It ships with a clean install of Windows that you can set up, and the only proprietary software is the XPG Prime Lite app. It offers plenty of tweaks, including fan speeds, battery charging options, display color, keyboard backlight idle timer, and more.

The bottom cover is easy to remove, and you get full access to the laptop’s internal hardware for future upgrades. There are two M.2 SSD slots, one coming filled with the 512GB PCIe 4.0 drive. There are also two SODIMM RAM slots, one filled with a 16GB stick of RAM. XPG shipped me an extra 16GB stick to install — it took about five minutes total time — for a total of 32GB. The real takeaway here is that you’re only going to get dual-channel performance if you add extra RAM. The performance difference isn’t huge, but there’s definitely a bit of a boost after the upgrade. The Wi-Fi 6 module is also socketed.

Having a laptop this thin and light with as many available DIY upgrades is certainly out of the ordinary. And it also appears that a version with dedicated graphics could come one day. There’s a big blank space next to the CPU for a GPU and second fan, but whether or not XPG jumps on the opportunity I can’t say. This is a reference design that manufacturers can use as they please, so it’s a possibility that XPG just left it blank to keep the cost down.

Following is a look at how the Xenia 14’s performance compares to a bunch of other PCs we’ve recently tested.

Image 1 of 6

Overall performance from the system is about average for most Ultrabooks. I had no problems going about daily work, including heavy web browsing, word processing, Excel spreadsheets, and photo editing. The Core i5 option won’t be too far behind the Core i7 I tested here, and it costs a couple hundred dollars less. I was expecting a bit more out of the PCI 4.0 SSD, but it’s still one of the faster drives we’ve tested in a laptop.

As for battery life, I tested with PCMark 10’s Modern Office rundown with 50% screen brightness and Windows 10’s «Better Performance» power profile. The 53Wh battery lasted just more than 10 hours on a charge. That’s closer to about eight hours of actual use, but still should be enough to get you through most of a workday.

Performance | How is the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11370H (Good or Bad)

The 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11370H trades blow with the likes of AMD Ryznen 9 5900Hx in single-core performance. How is 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11370H for 3D Animation and Rendering

In terms of single-core performance, the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11370H performs incredibly well and goes toe to toe with Ryzen 7 5800H so while using 3D Animation and Rendering application you will have a very smooth experience however it is still a quad-core processor and will be relatively slow compared to its competitors in rendering times and is relative to i7 9750H which is almost 2 years older than the i7 11370H.

Blender

Blender is an open-source digital content creation software for 3D-Modeling, Animation, Rendering, Video Editing & Compositing Solutions on the market. MSI Modern 14 Design, Display, Ports, And Connectivity Review#

The MSI Modern 14 comes with a stylish design that will catch your attention at first glance. To give more details, the laptop features an elegant aluminum chassis and offers a variety of color options.
These color options include carbon grey, beige mousse, and bluestone. Whichever color option you choose, the MSI Modern 14 will look stunning and stand out when placed among other laptops.
Besides, the lid of the laptop features a gorgeous “MSI” inscription slightly above the center to add more style to the laptop’s overall look. Moreover, this lid connects to the laptop’s base with the help of two sturdy hinges.
These hinges provide enough stability and allow the lid to open up to 180 degrees. Opening the lid reveals the MSI Modern 14’s 14-inch display.
This beautiful display has an FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution that allows it to produce good picture quality and accurate colors. In addition to the FHD resolution, the display features an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel that allows for wide viewing angles.
Therefore, viewing the display off-center shouldn’t be a problem as colors will remain accurate, and pictures won’t lose quality.
Surrounding the MSI Modern 14’s display are slim bezels, with the top and bottom bezels being slightly thick. Similar to the lid, the bottom bezel features a beautiful “MSI” inscription at the center.
Meanwhile, the top bezel houses an HD webcam. Sadly, this webcam isn’t ideal for taking selfies, as images appear blurry and grainy.
Nonetheless, the webcam offers good performance during video conference calls.
That said, the MSI Modern 14 comes with a chiclet-type keyboard with well-spaced keys that offers excellent feedback. Hence, the keyboard should offer a comfortable typing experience.
In fact, the keyboard is backlit. As a result, you shouldn’t have any problem typing in dark areas.
Below the MSI Modern 14’s keyboard is a spacious touchpad with integrated click buttons. This touchpad has a smooth surface and responds to touch accurately.
Also, the touchpad’s click buttons are responsive.
Unfortunately, the MSI Modern 14 doesn’t come with enough ports. Precisely, the left side of the laptop houses a charging port, one HDMI port, and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port.
Meanwhile, the laptop’s right side houses two USB 3.2 Type-A ports and a combo audio jack.
In terms of wireless connectivity, the MSI Modern 14 features Wi-Fi 6 802.11 ax and Bluetooth 5.1.
That being said, the MSI Modern 14 is a lightweight and slim laptop that you can carry around with ease. To be specific, the laptop weighs 1300 g and measures 319 x 219 x 16.9 – 18.1 mm (W x D x H).
Honestly, the MSI Modern 14 is one of the lightest and slimmest 14-inch laptops you will find on the market today. Comparatively, this laptop is lighter and slimmer than most of its competitors, such as the Lenovo IdeaPad 5.
Specifically, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 weighs 1380 g and measures 321.5 x 211.5 x 16.9 – 19.1 mm (W x D x H).
In conclusion, the MSI Modern 14 offers a stunning design with a lightweight build and an impressive FHD display. However, the laptop doesn’t come with sufficient ports.
Hence, I will be offering the MSI Modern 14 a rating of eight out of ten in this design review section.

We’re big fans of seeing , whether they’re at a 16:10 or a 3:2 aspect ratio. The Xenia 14’s display has the former, which means it has a slightly boosted 1920×1200 (FHD+) resolution. This is the only display option available which is a bit of a letdown, but at least at 14 inches it looks fairly crisp. Thanks to the slim bezel around all sides, you’re looking at a 92% screen-to-body ratio. It looks super modern and clean.

It’s a non-touch display with a matte finish, and its 364 nits (as tested) maximum brightness does a good job of fending off glare. Though the bezel is slightly raised, it’s tacked down well. The screen seems to dominate this laptop, and sitting open it looks like it’s all display, keyboard, and touchpad. I tested color reproduction and got back 98% sRGB, 77% AdobeRGB, and 79% DCI-P3. These are all solid results, especially at this price point. Unless you’re getting into truly specialized work where Adobe and P3 are critical, you shouldn’t have any issues here.

MSI Modern 14 Memory (RAM) Performance Review#

The MSI Modern 14 comes with a DDR4-3200 MHz memory type and a standard memory of 16 GB RAM. Furthermore, the laptop features one memory slot and supports a maximum memory capacity of 32 GB RAM.
For the purpose of this review, we will focus on the MSI Modern 14 with the standard 16 GB RAM. With 16 GB RAM, this laptop should be able to handle most tasks and run powerful applications like Adobe Premiere Pro.
Also, the MSI Modern 14 should be a great multitasker. For instance, it will be able to run about 20 Chrome tabs simultaneously without glitching or slowing down a bit.
In fact, you can decide to stream multiple YouTube videos while these browser tabs are open, and the laptop still won’t budge. For more insight into the MSI Modern 14’s performance with 16 GB RAM, I will now highlight its PCMark 10 test result.
Briefly, PCMark 10 is a benchmark that evaluates a computer’s overall performance by simulating numerous real-world productivity tasks. Besides, the higher the score on the test, the better the performance of the computer.
On that note, the MSI Modern 14 delivered a score of 4823 points. Sadly, this laptop was outperformed by most of its competitors.
For example, the HP Envy 14-eb0010nr scored 5410 points on the benchmark test. Also, ASUS Zenbook 14 UX435EG scored 5150 points.
Hence, I will be rating the MSI Modern 14 an eight out of ten in this memory review section.

CPU generation and family ✪ What is the difference between CPU generations

What is CPU family? Processor family is the collection of all the processors which are built using same technology of manufacturing processes.Processors are grouped into families. Processors within a given family generally have similar feature sets. The generation signifies some of the processor’s attributes, such as when it was released, the size of the transistors used, cache type.

We offer you all the information about the generation of a Intel Core i7-11370H CPU, the segment of usage (computer, server or mobile type), the preceding model of a CPU, and its successor. Also consider the following:

  1. Is the higher generation the better on a CPU?
  2. Is CPU generation important?
  3. What is the current CPU processor`s generation?
  4. What is a CPU family?

Each processor name has a brand, brand modifier, generation, SKU, and product line. Once you know what each of those mean, you can identify if you need to buy Intel Core i7-11370H.

Schenker Vision 14 E22: What’s in the new notebook

By switching to the new CPU generation, the Schenker Vision 14 ultrabook gets a whopping performance boost. The new E22 model now relies on the current Intel Core i7-12700H with 6 performance and 8 efficiency cores as well as 20 threads, after the last edition from October 2021 still used the Core i7-11370H (four cores, eight threads) at most.

This naturally results in a significant increase in performance. “Despite the very slim laptop design, the Core i7-12700H maintains a TDP of 40 watts even under Prime95 continuous load,” the manufacturer reveals.

A performance increase of around 40 percent compared to the predecessor is promised. This is proven by benchmark comparison data, in which the Vision 14 E22 reaches 9,093 points in Cinebench R23 in the highest Overboost mode with maximum fan settings) – compared to 6,534 points of the predecessor.

This is made possible, among other things, by an optimized cooling system with a dual-fan solution and the use of liquid metal heat sink on the CPU. The CPU performance is only supposed to drop minimally even in battery mode, which is of course quite an announcement.

The technical features

The rest of the features of the Schenker Vision 14 E22 are also impressive. The ultrabook measures 308.8 x 215 x 13.6 to 15.6 mm and weighs only 1.1 kg and 1.3 kg, respectively, despite the robust AZ91D magnesium case.

The weight is of course directly related to the installed battery. The manufacturer offers the notebook with two configurable battery options: The smaller and lighter 53 Wh model is only available in combination with the Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti.

Here, two M.2 SSD slots including a fast PCI Express 4.0 connection are added. For improved heat dissipation, the storage drives are connected to the magnesium case via a thermal pad.

At 1.3 kg, the second model is only slightly heavier, but comes with a 99 Wh battery. In return, you have to do without one of the two M.2 slots – of course, the larger battery requires more space in the case. In return, you will of course benefit from a much longer battery life, which is supposed to allow about 11 hours of video playback “in a very high image resolution” according to the manufacturer.

The Vision 14 E22 is also available with an integrated Intel Xe graphics unit or with Nvidia’s faster GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card. The latter is available in an efficiency-focused version with a TGP of 45 watts (35 watts plus 10 watts Dynamic Boost 2.0), which should also allow demanding image and video processing.

Praiseworthy: The SSDs and the working memory are plugged in and can thus be exchanged or expanded. Up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM in two SO-DIMM slots are offered.

Hell 90 Hz display and many ports

When it comes to the display, the Schenker Vision 14 E22 relies on the same panel that was already used in the predecessor. Specifically, it is a matte (non-glare) IPS panel with a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels and a brightness of 380 cd/m².

It offers a refresh rate of 90 hertz and comes in a 16:10 format. It is also pre-calibrated at the factory and thus covers 99% of the sRGB color space.

The selection of ports is also impressive for a compact ultrabook. A DisplayPort- and Power Delivery-capable Thunderbolt 4 and USB-C port, two USB-A ports, HDMI, a full-size SD card reader and a 2-in-1 audio port (3.5 mm jack) are available.

Image output is also possible on up to three external monitors simultaneously. The ultrabook can be charged via the dedicated charging port using the included 90-Watt power adapter, or conveniently via USB-C.

A 13 x 8 cm Microsoft Precision-compliant glass touchpad and a flat keyboard with white backlight are used for inputting. The latter offers the possibility to permanently keep the secondary function of the F-keys active thanks to the FnLock feature.
