Последнее отступление на тему iOS и Android. Какие бы устройства мы ни сравнивали, надо признать, что iOS работает в целом стабильнее и плавнее, под неё разработано больше качественных приложений и крутых игр, которые нередко «идут» лучше или обладают лучшей графикой, чем на Android.
Всё в дело в том, что Apple разрабатывает не только операционную систему, но и мобильные процессоры, которые использует в своих устройствах (и оптимизирует их друг под друга), а в дополнение к этому плотно взаимодействует с сообществом разработчиков. Получается единая программно-аппаратная экосистема, которой нет ни у одного производителя Android-смартфонов.
Мир Android при этом может предложить более широкие возможности настройки, так как операционная система более открытая. Здесь у вас не будет проблем с тем, чтобы поменять интерфейс или установить приложение не из фирменного магазина (но с этим нужно быть осторожными). Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max: Which should you buy?

Honestly, picking between these two devices is entirely down to what you want from a software point of view. They have a lot going on the hardware front; you get amazing cameras, vibrant screens with fast refresh, internal hardware that’s designed to last several years, and long-term software updates.
I used the iPhone 13 Pro Max as my secondary phone for the better part of six months now, and I like it quite a bit. There are a few areas where iOS continues to be annoying — particularly with notification management — but that shouldn’t be a deterrent if you’re interested in switching over to Apple’s ecosystem.
And if you want to continue with Android, there’s no phone better than the Galaxy S22 Ultra at the moment. I used the S22 Ultra for a month before switching to the Find X5 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and other 2022 Android flagships, and Samsung’s combination of hardware, design, screen prowess, cameras, and software is unmatched. Throw in the productivity features and the S22 Ultra is a no-brainer.

iPhone 13 Pro vs Samsung S22 Ultra: Battery life and storage
Apple had a bad reputation for poor battery life for its iPhone series for some time. It’s made decent progress with its recent models, with them generally lasting a least a full day with reasonably average use. The larger iPhone 13 Pro Max has a longer battery life — although Apple doesn’t release its full battery specs. If you’re likely to be producing a lot of 4K video content in one day it’s worth packing a battery pack if you’ll need to charge on the go.
With its 5000 mAh battery life, you’ll likely fare better with the Samsung S22 Ultra — fairly average usage should see it last two days before you need to give it a charge. Again, if you’re likely to be creating a lot of 4K (or even 8K) content, investing in a battery pack for on-the-go power boosts is probably a good idea.
When it comes to storage options, both the Samsung and the Apple give you choices between 128GB and 1TB. Neither offer the ability to expand your storage via MicroSD card, while both have limitations if you opt for the minimum storage — with the Samsung it’s that you get less RAM, and with the iPhone, you lose out on the ability to create ProRes video. Opting for the 256GB option or above for either device is likely to be the most sensible option for serious content creators.

So there you have it. Two flagship phones, two mighty fine slabs of 5G mobile joy, two absolute powerhouses from the giants of the phone world. But which is most worthy of a place in your bag – and ultimately, your life?
It’s really a question of personal preference. If you want to write and draw on screen, the S22 Ultra is for you. The S Pen stylus slot is a great addition, keeping the pen with you whenever you need it – and the user experience feels deeply embedded thanks to Samsung’s updated apps and software. The phone also features Samsung’s most advanced camera features to date, with a heavy focus on low-light performance, as well as the ability to save 16-bit RAW files for editing.
The S22 Ultra’s remarkable photography features present the most compelling case yet for abandoning the Apple cart yet – and although we hope that Samsung is fiercely working away behind the scenes to glean a little more stamina out of the battery pack (or feature a completely new one next time around), for overall performance, the Android realm certainly has a new frontrunner.
But if you prefer Apple’s walled garden then the 13 Pro Max is a no-brainer. It’s big, bright, powerful and a worthy entrant on our list of best smartphones. The top tier iPhone’s audio chops also edge those offered by the flagship Galaxy device overall. Samsung S22 Ultra’s dual-firing speakers (which boast support for Dolby Atmos) offer a meatier and more spacious soundstage than the competition, but when using headphones the iPhone wins in terms of clarity, timing and musical cohesion. That’s not to say the performance is poor from the S22 Ultra (it is still solid and meaty), it just doesn’t hang together quite as well and our music suffers just a little in terms of impetus, drive and energy as a result.
Apple fans will need no further convincing – and even long-term iPhone devotees may be surprised to learn that the newest flagship iOS device wins in terms of battery life…

Both phones have vibrant screens with the latest tech. The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel with a QHD+ (3088×1440) resolution, and it has 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and maximum brightness that goes up to 1,750 nits for HDR content and 1,200 nits for daily use.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2778×1284, and it includes Dolby Vision, HDR10, and maximum brightness of 1,200 nits. In a first for the series, the phone gets 120Hz refresh which dynamically scales based on the content you’re viewing.
Samsung also has a similar feature, with the S22 Ultra able to go from 1Hz to 120Hz. You won’t find a vast catalog of games that run at 120Hz, but for most day-to-day use cases, you’ll see an immediate difference when switching from a phone with a regular 60Hz screen.
As for the quality, these are two of the best OLED screens you’ll find on any phone today. Regardless of whatever you’re doing — scrolling through social media, playing games, or streaming videos — you’ll find both screens to be very enjoyable.
One feature that’s missing on the iPhone is always-on mode; although recent iPhones come with OLED screens, iOS still doesn’t have a way to preview notifications and view the time and battery details when the screen is off.
There’s stereo sound on both devices, and that makes a lot of difference particularly when you’re playing games. The S22 Ultra gets just a little bit louder and is more detailed, but the iPhone holds its own.
Samsung Galaxy S22 vs. iPhone 13 verdict
Even though it’s not the newest iPhone on the block any more, the iPhone 13 edges ahead of the Galaxy S22 in our flagship face-off, riding its faster chipset and superior battery life to victory. The fact that the iPhone 13 costs even less now has only widened its lead.
The two phones are fairly evenly matched on design and cameras, while the Galaxy S22 sports the better display. But it’s hard to overlook how well the iPhone 13 performs and how long it lasts on a charge.

That’s not to say the Galaxy S22 isn’t one of the best Android phones. You can really see the improvements Samsung made to the S22’s cameras, and the increased software support really makes this smartphone a better value than before. Even storage upgrades aren’t that expensive, which we appreciate.
But Apple has put together a winning combination of hardware and software with the iPhone 13. Assuming you don’t need the latest and greatest device — if you do, consider the iPhone 14 instead — the iPhone 13 remains a great choice.
Galaxy S22 vs. iPhone 13: software
This isn’t iOS vs. Android. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but both are mature operating systems and share many features. Read our recent Android vs. iPhone article if you are interested in a general look at the two sides; we asked three phone experts for their opinions on the matter.
Back to the point at hand. Leaving aside some proprietary features like iMessage, or now to a more limited degree FaceTime, the biggest factor here is software support. This is an area where Android has taken significant strides over the last year.
Samsung now holds the crown when it comes to Android updates with four years of major OS updates and four years of security updates. Only Google outlasts it with five years of security updates, but the Pixel taps out after three years of major OS updates. The iPhone remains the gold standard here with roughly six years of software and security updates; Apple doesn’t have an official policy on it, so we can only go off past history.
However, this is getting close to rendering the discussion of software support meaningless as many users are likely to upgrade phones before hitting the four- or six-year mark.
With that said, I still have to give the edge to the iPhone 13; not only will it have longer software support, but thanks to that overpowered processor, it should be able to better handle that software in the distant future of 2027.

Samsung Galaxy S22 vs. iPhone 13 battery life and charging
Battery life figured to be a tough comparison for the Galaxy S22, which actually shrunk its battery from the 4,090 mAH power pack in the Galaxy S21; the new phones uses a 3,700 mAh battery. Meanwhile, Apple went the opposite route, boosting the size of the batteries in every iPhone 13 model. Apple doesn’t disclose battery sizes, but teardowns suggest the iPhone 13 has a 3,095 mAh battery.
After testing each phone, we can see the impact of two phone makers going in different directions with battery size. The iPhone 13 lasted 10 hours and 33 minutes on our battery test, in which we set the brightness level of the phone’s screen to 150 nits and then have it surf the web over 5G until it runs out of power. The iPhone 13’s time is not only better than average for a smartphone, it’s a 2-hour improvement over the iPhone 12 on this test.

The Galaxy S22 didn’t fare as well. It failed to last 8 hours; only by turning off its adaptive refresh rate did we manage to get the Galaxy S22 to eke out an 8-hour, 2-minute time on our battery test.
Samsung regains a little ground with charging speeds. The Galaxy S22 supports 25W charging, compared to the 20W charging the iPhone 13 is capable of. That means you’ll be able to top off your Samsung phone faster. After 30 minutes of charging, we got a drained Galaxy S22 to 60%; the iPhone 13 only reached 51% in that time.
