What’s New With iPhone 13?
This year 12 became 13, and all of the main iPhone models received updates. This is what some people would call an «S» year, where the physical design hasn’t changed, but the insides have. Some people find that disappointing, or only care about what they can see. I am the type of nerd that prefers to look inside, and judge the new models based on those improvements.
Last year Apple released four new iPhone models, and this year they updated them all.
- 12 Mini -> 13 Mini
- 12 -> 13
- 12 Pro -> 13 Pro
- 12 Pro Max -> 13 Pro Max
Besides the number being one higher, the biggest changes are:
- Battery life, especially on the Pro models.
- Cameras, especially on the Pro models.
- Screen, especially on the Pro models.
Battery life, cameras, screens. If you follow Apple that might sound familiar. What was better about the 11 Pro over the 11? Battery life, cameras, and the screen. What about iPhone 7 Plus vs the 7? You guessed it. Battery life, cameras, and the screen. There are other differences of course, but those are the three that usually matter the most.
We’re well past the Wild West era of smartphones, where every new release was a huge leap over the last. Phones have been iterative for many years now, but better is still better. The question becomes how much better, and do the other differences matter? This veers into personal choice, so I can only share my perspective on why I upgraded from the 12 Mini to the 13 Pro.

И понятен интерес пользователей к прошлогодней «прошке», учитывая незначительные отличия от iPhone 13 (а в случае с iPhone 12 Pro Max так и преимущества, как минимум, в размерах), но явно больший функционал камер.
Процессор и начинка
Сердцем iPhone 13 стал процессор A15 Bionic. Это новый более мощный 5-нанометровый процессор Apple. Любопытно, что на презентации купертиновцы сравнивали прирост мощности не со своим чипом предыдущего поколения, а с каким-то среднестатистическим Android-смартфоном.
Скорее всего, прирост мощности нового чипа совсем незначительный.
Внутри все аналогично предшественнику: 2 высокопроизводительных ядра и 4 энергоэффективных. Графический процессор 4-ядерный, а система Neural Engine располагает 16-тью ядрами.
Объем ОЗУ новинки пока неизвестен, а вот емкость накопителя изменилась. В базовой версии это 128 ГБ, средняя модель имеет 256 ГБ, а топовая – 512 ГБ.
iPhone 12 работает под управлением прошлогоднего топового процессора A14 Bionic с системой Neural Engine нового поколения (скорее всего, четвертой генерации).
Наличие одинакового с моделями Pro OLED-дисплея уже не позволяет более доступной модели обгонять флагманов по производительности, как это было в линейке iPhone 11 и iPhone 11 Pro.
Объем оперативной памяти составляет 4 ГБ. Пользователю доступны устройства с накопителями 64, 128 и 256 Гб.
У кого начинка лучше: как всегда, возросшая мощность новой модели будет заметна исключительно в синтетических тестах. На практике оба смартфона будут отлично работать на последних версиях iOS без каких-либо тормозов и лагов.
Особенно это очевидно после отказа Apple от прямого сравнения процессоров с предыдущим поколением.
Единственным значимым отличием по начинке стал вдвое возросший объем накопителя.
Дизайн и качество материалов
Оба смартфона, iPhone 12 Pro и iPhone 13 Mini, имеют высококачественный дизайн и привлекательный внешний вид.
iPhone 12 Pro имеет стильный и элегантный дизайн с краями из нержавеющей стали и задней панелью из стекла. Этот материал придает устройству премиальный вид и ощущение в руке. Он также обладает высокой прочностью и устойчивостью к царапинам.
С другой стороны, iPhone 13 Mini имеет компактный и легкий корпус из алюминия, который делает его удобным для использования одной рукой. Задняя панель также выполнена из стекла, что придает смартфону привлекательный вид. Материалы, используемые в iPhone 13 Mini, обеспечивают долговечность и надежность устройства.
Оба устройства представляют собой пример качественного исполнения и внимания к деталям со стороны Apple. Они обеспечивают привлекательный вид и приятное восприятие при использовании. Вместе с тем, стеклянные панели воздействительны на отпечатки пальцев, поэтому для их сохранения рекомендуется использовать защитные пленки или чехлы.
Система-на-чипе стала мощнее
Конечно же чипсет обновили, теперь это Apple A15 Bionic. Насколько он лучше A14 Bionic в iPhone 12? На презентации Apple аккуратно обошла эту тему, отметив, что iPhone на 30 % мощнее конкурентов на Android. Ну ок.
Зато теперь «в базе» получаем не скромные 64 ГБ встроенной памяти, а уже 128 ГБ. При этом появилась ещё и модель на 512 ГБ. Таким образом, iPhone 13 доступен со 128, 256 и 512 ГБ памяти.
В случае с iPhone 12 получаем 64, 128 или 256 ГБ.
Из принципиальных нововведений ещё хочу отметить поддержку сразу двух eSIM в iPhone 13. Можно ли при этом ещё и физическую SIM-карту использовать, получив сразу трёхсимочное устройство, не сообщается. Но думаю, что нет. Скорее всего, либо одна физическая карточка и eSIM, либо сразу две eSIM.
Камеры — новые фишки
Основная камера получила светлый объектив f/1.5 и огромные пиксели по 1,9 мкм. Да, теперь у нас абсолютно новая матрица, чего не случалось со времён iPhone 7. Во-первых, это даёт возможность снимать более качественные фотки в ночи — до 2,2 раз, как об этом рапортует Apple. Правда, это не самое сочное.
Топовая фишка основной камеры — съёмка макрофото, видео и даже Slo-mo с расстояния в 2 см. iPhone 12 Pro Max в этом отношении тотально разочаровал, ибо не умел фокусироваться на объектах ближе 10 см. Даже 11 Pro Max мог «хвататься» за объекты поближе — с 4-5 сантиметров. К счастью, новая «прошка» научилась снимать настоящее супер макро. Ниже пара примеров.
Зум наконец-то начал хоть чуть-чуть конкурировать с флагманами на Android, у которых 5- и даже 10-кратное оптическое приближение — давно не новость.
Летом был в Питере на параде военно-морского флота, но в итоге ничего не заснял — далеко. С iPhone 13 Pro будет поближе, ведь сюда установлен объектив с фокусным расстоянием 77 мм или 3-кратным оптическим зумом. Раньше было 2.5x, чего критически мало по нынешним временам. Правда, есть и минус — объектив у нового телевика потемнел до f/2.8, хотя раньше было f/2.2.
Сверхширокоугольную камеру прокачали на 92% для ночной съёмки (светосила теперь f/1.8, а было f/2.4). В составе 6 линз, говорят, стала быстрее, а так больше ничего нового.

Самый базовый «айфон», который Apple официально продает на своем сайте — iPhone SE второго поколения. Это компактный смартфон с экраном диагональю 4,7 дюйма и сенсорной кнопкой Touch ID. Overall Thoughts
In a year, the massive burden of the 13 Pro’s camera turrets and heavy frame may have me yearning for another Mini-sized phone. According to the rumors, this may be the last year that Apple makes one. I hope that’s not the case. I chose the 12 Mini for the set of compromises it made, and I was happy with that. This year, I chose to make a different set. I’m going to have to live with the extra weight and size in exchange for all the goodies that come with it.
For the battery life, for the amazing screen, and for the cameras, I’m pretty happy with the tradeoffs so far. I’m definitely going to miss putting the 12 Mini in my pocket, but I’m going to be happier pulling the 13 Pro out.
Does buying the 13 Pro make me a professional? Of course not. When you push the name and the marketing to side, you’re left with a really great camera, great screen, with great battery life. I guess you can make phone calls with it too, I don’t know.
The boring perfection of the iPhone 13 Pro makes me wonder what Apple can do next year to push things forward. One thing I would personally love to see is that the features on the larger phones continue to work their way down. I am OK with compromising on size this year, but I want to see what next year’s phones bring. I would love to be able to step down to the Mini-class phone again. Until then I’ll professionally enjoy this professional pocket computer.

Во-вторых, переработана многострадальная «монобровь»: она сузилась, но при этом немного прибавила в высоту. Apple была первой, кто ввёл моду на «чёлку», но конкуренты тем временем перешли на безрамочные экраны, а iPhone сохраняет верность традициям.
В-третьих, обновлена цветовая гамма. Если iPhone 12 предлагается в шести цветах, то iPhone 13 — только в пяти. Откуда такая несправедливость? Не забывайте, что iPhone 12 тоже первоначально предлагался в пяти комбинациях, а потом, ближе к весне, появился новый фиолетовый или сиреневый цвет. Возможно, и в этом году повторится та же история, когда появится новое исполнение в начале 2022 года.
Цвета iPhone 12
На выбор пара базовых исполнений: чёрное и белое, вместо нежно-зелёного теперь розовый, а синий цвет стал светлее. Также изменили и красный Product Red, он потемнел.
Цвета iPhone 13
Корпус по-прежнему выполнен из стекла и алюминия, размеры прежние, только телефон прибавил в толщине и весе. Он на 0,25 мм толще и на 11 граммов тяжелее. На мой взгляд, разница незначительная, тем более что, по заявлению Apple, новое поколение и работает дольше.
Скорее всего, чехлы от iPhone 12 не подойдут к iPhone 13 даже из-за такой небольшой разницы.
Вывод
Модели Apple iPhone 14 имеют несколько улучшений по сравнению с моделями iPhone 13, в том числе ускорение графического процессора, некоторые обновления камеры и несколько функций, таких как обнаружение автомобильных аварий и экстренная помощь SOS через спутники. Различия по сравнению с iPhone 12 немного увеличиваются, с резким скачком процессора, улучшенным дизайном благодаря уменьшенной выемке и большим количеством настроек камеры.
Обновление с iPhone 12 до iPhone 13 или iPhone 14 предлагает повышение скорости, улучшение камеры и небольшое изменение дизайна. Однако для тех, кто рассматривает возможность перехода с iPhone 13 на iPhone 14, различия более тонкие.
Если вы подумываете о переходе со старого iPhone или iPhone XR и задаетесь вопросом, какое из этих устройств лучше выбрать, iPhone 13 — фантастическое устройство, как и iPhone 12 — и оба сейчас дешевле — так что шансы вы будете довольны тем, если iPhone 14 выходит за рамки вашего бюджета.
Тем не менее, если вам нужно устройство большего размера, то iPhone 14 Plus — отличный вариант, предлагающий увеличенную батарею по сравнению со всеми сравниваемыми здесь моделями и больший дисплей, а также дополнительные функции, предлагаемые моделями iPhone 14. Между тем, если вы хотите меньше, iPhone 13 mini — это карманный электромобиль, и его стоит рассмотреть, даже если он уже не новый.
