The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts a 200MP main camera which is the first of its kind, that sits alongside a 12MP ultrawide camera, two 10MP telephoto lenses and a 40MP selfie snapper.
The OnePlus 11 uses a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP portrait tele camera, with a 32MP selfie camera.
As well as offering a more advanced system, the Samsung delivers some features you won’t get on the OnePlus including the 100x zoom which allows you to see way more than the human eye can pick up, and with impressive amounts of detail too.
How the cameras compare will remain to be seen in our testing of both phones, but given Samsung’s track record, we’d expect the Ultra to be a step above OnePlus. That’s not to say the OnePlus camera is bad, to the contrary, it’s actually a fantastic piece of kit for simple point-and-shoot photography.
OnePlus 11 vs Galaxy S23: Battery and charging

The OnePlus 11 and Galaxy S23 play in very different demographics as far as size is concerned, so it is hard to draw a direct correlation between the battery capacities of the two phones. That said, OnePlus is sticking to its tried and tested 5,000mAh cell which is good for almost two days of moderate use.
The larger battery and smaller display on the Galaxy S23 should allow it to match up with the OnePlus 11’s battery life.
Samsung, on the other hand, has upped its battery capacity this year. The Galaxy S23 goes from 3,700mAh on the S22 to 3,900mAh on the S23. Coupled with the more power-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and a smaller display, overall longevity should be a lot better, though not quite in the same league as the OnePlus. We’ll know for sure once we test out the device and will update this comparison when we do.
Where the OnePlus truly pulls ahead is in charging speeds. The phone ships with 100W support internationally and throttles it down to 80W in North America, which will get you a full charge in around 30 minutes according to our testing. The Galaxy S23 peaks at 25W wired charging which will give you a 50% top-off at best in thirty minutes. You do, however, get conveniences like 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging that the OnePlus 11 doesn’t have.

From looks alone, you can tell how different these phones are from one another. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has sharp edges and a flat screen while the OnePlus 11 has smooth curves wrapping the display around the edge of the handset.
Flip them over and they’re even more different. Cutout camera lenses adorn the back of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, but the OnePlus 11 has a more traditional raised camera module, although its circular shape is less standard.
In terms of available colourways, you can buy the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in black, green, pink and white while the OnePlus 11 comes in a matte black or a reflective green.
Something you don’t get with OnePlus is the Samsung stylus which you pull out from the bottom of the frame. That will be a fantastic feature if you plan to use your next phone for getting work done.
But these things work both ways and something you won’t get on the Samsung is OnePlus’ alert slider. It sits on the right-hand side of the frame and makes it really quick and easy to switch between Ring, Silent and Vibrate. It sounds like a small attribute but it is actually really handy.
So what about the screen? The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has a large 6.8-inch AMOLED panel with a 1440 x 3088p resolution, while the OnePlus’ is a little smaller at 6.7 inches with a slightly higher resolution of 3216 x 1440p (QHD+).
Both devices have a 120Hz refresh rate which can drop to as little as 1Hz for certain tasks to conserve battery.
Which one should you buy?
The Galaxy S23 and the OnePlus 11 5G stack up well against each other, but the OnePlus 11 offers more bang for your buck overall. Yes, you’ll have to shell out $799 for the OnePlus 11 with 256GB UFS 4.0 storage too, but the base variant with 128GB UFS 3.1 storage offers great value for $699 if you don’t care about the newest storage standard. The OnePlus 11 has a bigger screen with support for a higher resolution. It has a bigger battery that’ll last longer and also charge faster than the one inside the Galaxy S23. The lack of wireless charging sticks out like a sore thumb, but it becomes a bit more palatable in this comparison thanks to a slightly cheaper price tag. I also think the OnePlus 11 looks better than the Galaxy S23, but that’s entirely subjective, so I’ll leave it out of the equation.
The Galaxy S23 is not a bad phone by any means, but it’ll cost you $100 more for the base variant with 128GB storage once the pre-order bonus ends, and it doesn’t do enough to justify an uptick in price. The only reason why I would recommend the Galaxy S23 over the OnePlus 11 is that it’s a smaller phone that is easier to hold and use, and it has a flat display. So if you prefer compact phones or if you don’t like using phones with curved displays, then you can consider the Galaxy S23. But for everyone else, I reckon the OnePlus 11 is a better pick out of the two.

Verdict
Choosing between these smartphones is not easy, although there are some key differences between them.
The OnePlus 11 offers a larger display, more RAM, a bigger battery and faster charging. Performance and photo quality are very similar.
The Galaxy S23 is also more expensive than the OnePlus 11, making the latter a better choice for most people.

Differences between Samsung Galaxy S23 and OnePlus 11
In terms of design, the Galaxy S23 has a sleek, premium look and feel. It features Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the front and back, ensuring durability while maintaining an elegant appearance.
It’s impressively slim and lightweight at 196g, and holds an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
By comparison, the OnePlus 11 is slightly bulkier and heavier, weighing 205g. It features the slightly less durable Gorilla Glass 5 on the rear and first-generation Gorilla Glass Victus on the screen. Although not as slim as the Galaxy S23, it still offers a premium build quality.
However, it has a lower IP64 rating, meaning it can only survive a spray of water as opposed to submersion.

The Galaxy S23 boasts a 6.1in AMOLED display (with centre hole-punch selfie camera), making it noticeably smaller than the OnePlus 11. As a result, it has a slightly lower resolution, but you probably won’t notice the difference.
It’s also a flat display, while the OnePlus 11 is slightly curved at the edges. It has a larger 6.7in AMOLED display, the hole-punch camera is in the top-left corner here.
But both phones offer excellent displays with a 120Hz refresh rate, and LTPO tech that can automatically drop all the way down to 1Hz to save battery.
Audio quality is good on both, although neither has a 3.5mm headphone jack. If you don’t own a pair of wireless earbuds, you will have to rely on the built-in stereo speakers.
Both smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, ensuring fast and reliable performance.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 has 8GB of RAM on all models, plus storage options of 128GB or 256GB. The OnePlus 11 provides a choice between 8GB and 16GB of RAM, paired with 128GB or 256GB of storage. Neither phone supports expandable storage via microSD.

In our Geekbench 5 Multi-core test, the Galaxy S23 scored 5001 points, slightly ahead of the OnePlus 11, which scored 4884 points.
Both phones handle everyday tasks effortlessly and can handle demanding games without breaking a sweat, maintaining a consistent frame rate even at maximum settings, and avoiding overheating.
You also get 5G connectivity on both, but the OnePlus 11 goes a step further with Wi-Fi 7, while the Galaxy S23 uses Wi-Fi 6E.

The OnePlus 11 takes the lead in the battery department with a larger 5000mAh dual-cell battery. It also offers 100W wired charging. The Galaxy S23, while having a smaller battery at 3900mAh, still provides respectable battery life, but it’s 45W wired charging is significantly slower.
The Galaxy S23 can last through the day with about 10-20% battery remaining during moderate usage days. While it doesn’t include an adapter in the box, just a cable, a 67W adapter, it charges to 41% in 30 minutes.
Battery life is slightly stronger on the OnePlus 11, though it won’t stetch to two days unless you’re a very light user. However, it boasts impressive 100W fast charging, charging from 0% to 71% in 15 minutes and reaching a full charge in just 26 minutes.

In general, the S23 offers more detail, although there’s only a noticeable difference in some scenarios.
A more apparent distinction is the white balance. OnePlus 11 photos tend to be warmer, giving it an advantage over the Galaxy S23, which sometimes has an overly cool tint.
Both phones produce good night photos. The Galaxy S23 tends to offer more detail and emphasis highlights, while the OnePlus 11 has more contrasting night shots with less brightened shadows, often appearing more natural.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs OnePlus 11: verdict
In comparing the two, what’s clear is that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the OnePlus 11 are two different devices meant for different people, despite both being top-end flagships.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is an all-singing, all-dancing smartphone with literally everything you could need and more. If you have a big budget and you need a handset for work as well as play then this is likely to be the best Android phone for you.
If you don’t want to spend so much, but you want a phone that’s powerful and takes nice photos then the OnePlus 11 will be the better choice. Overall, it’s a really good phone that’s excellent value for money.

The high-end version of the OnePlus 11, with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, costs the same as the entry-level Samsung Galaxy S23. However, keep in mind that you can get a free upgrade to the 256GB version of the Galaxy S23 during the pre-order period.

The OnePlus 11 5G, on the other hand, entered the fray on Feb 7, 2023, which is a week after the Galaxy S23 series debut. The OnePlus 11 is now up for grabs for a starting price of $699 for the base variant, and that puts it in the same price segment as the Galaxy S23.
Android 13 vs OyxgenOS
The OnePlus 11 runs OyxgenOS, which is a new Oxygen/ColorOS hybrid based on Android 13. We thought that this provided a much better experience than the original OxygenOS, being more user-friendly and intuitive than the previous OnePlus handsets.
It also comes with OnePlus Shelf, which gives users access to a range of widgets and apps with a swipe from the Home Screen.
The Galaxy S23 also runs Android 13 out of the box, with Samsung’s new OneUI 5.1 applied on top. Key features include customisable modes and routines, and the ability to respond to incoming calls with a text via Bixby.
User interfaces are a personal preference, so many users may find that they want to stick with what they already know.
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs OnePlus 11 – Design
The most overt difference in design between these two phones is their size. The Samsung S23 is 6.1 inches while the OnePlus 11 is a huge 6.7 inches. This makes the OnePlus 11 much more in the size range of the S23 Plus and S23 Ultra.
The camera layouts are also very different. OnePlus has completely updated its look from the OnePlus 10, with the 11 having a circular camera block on the rear, for an attention-grabbing look. There are also curved corners and the return of the popular alert slider feature, which was absent from the OnePlus 10.

The S23 meanwhile has more rectangular edges, giving it a more striking look. Meanwhile, on the back, the cameras are individually housed in their own cutouts. This means that they sit flush with the rest of the rear of the phone, making for a great looking and minimalist design.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 remains available in Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender, consistent with its predecessor. The OnePlus 11 in contrast is limited to black and green, though the black features a matte textured glass finish.
OnePlus 11 vs Galaxy S23: Camera

The OnePlus 11 and Samsung Galaxy S23 are more similar than different in the camera department. To start with, both phones have the same layout — a primary camera flanked by additional ultrawide and telephoto sensors. No superfluous macro or depth sensors here.
Both phones employ a 50MP sensor as the primary camera. The OnePlus 11 switches out the IMX766 sensor from the OnePlus 10T for a 50MP IMx890. In day-to-day use, this shouldn’t make much of a difference. On the other hand, Samsung continues to use the same layout across all three cameras as it did with the S22 lineup. That’s no bad thing, as we lauded the camera setup on the S22 and S22 Plus for its superior imaging capabilities. This year, Samsung is touting additional features like better low-light photography as part of its Nightography feature set and improved AI processing to eke out more performance from the same sensor.
The OnePlus 11 brings more megapixels to the fight, but ultimately software processing is the deciding factor.
The OnePlus 11 steps forward in sheer information-gathering capabilities with its secondary cameras. The 48MP ultrawide sensor is a cut above the 12MP shooter on the Galaxy S23. It should allow it to perform significantly better in poorly lit situations, though camera tuning will have the final say for real-world performance.
On paper, the OnePlus 11 has a superior 32MP sensor mated to its telephoto lens. However, that lens tops off at just 2x zoom. The Galaxy S23, on the other hand, pairs its 10MP camera sensor with a 3x lens for added reach.
As far as selfie cameras go, the OnePlus 11 deploys a familiar 16MP sensor. The Samsung Galaxy S23’s 12MP selfie shooter, however, offers additional capabilities like the ability to shoot 4K video at 30 or 60FPS. While both phones have capable hardware, OnePlus has traditionally output rather lackluster images despite the cutting-edge specs, and Samsung will likely edge out here despite its lower resolution sensors.
Both phones offer a full suite of camera additions and a dedicated pro mode that will let you go above and beyond the automatic settings.
Which one should you go for?
There is no easy winner here. Both these devices are excellent across the board and offer a good return on your investment.
It comes down to your budget requirements and how you use your smartphone. If you are using it all day, need a tonne of storage, and would appreciate spending under a grand, it’s hard to turn away from the OnePlus 11. With its incredible battery life and even more incredible recharging speed, you’ll be hard pressed to find a phone with better specs for less.

There’s a clear and distinct difference between the size of the OnePlus 11 and the Galaxy S23. Packing a 6.1-inch AMOLED screen, the Galaxy S23 is amongst the rare breed of pocket-friendly full-specced flagships. For users who want a larger display, Samsung offers the Galaxy S23 Plus. However, that phone operates in a very different price range.
The Galaxy S23 is significantly more pocketable than the OnePlus 11 on account of its smaller display.
Switching over to absolute dimensions, the OnePlus 11 clocks in at 163.1 x 74.1 x 8.5mm and a hefty 205g. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 trims down the dimensions on all fronts and measures 163.1 x 74.1 x 8.5mm. The smaller size also means a much lighter phone that weighs a mere 168 grams.
The OnePlus 11 is no behemoth. In fact, the tall aspect ratio lends itself nicely to single-handed use. However, compared to the Galaxy S23, it is certainly a handful. Samsung’s smallest device in its flagship lineup is the practical choice for anyone who prefers portability over absolute screen size. The flattened display also lends itself greatly to comfort, and the phone will easily slip into the skinniest of jeans.
While the OnePlus 11 opts for a cyclopean circle with three camera lenses and a flash embedded in it, the Galaxy S23 opts for a much more understated design language. Gone is the segregated camera module, and instead, this year, Samsung has opted for three standalone lenses just like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, making it a perfect match for the rest of the Galaxy flagship lineup. Similarly, the OnePlus 11 opts for a curved, matte-finished back panel to better fit in the palm of the hand while Samsung has gone for a flat glass back with the S23. Both feel suitably premium, although the Galaxy S23’s construction leans towards a more premium appeal.
Both phones are distinctive as well as visually appealing, and ultimately the choice between the two will boil down to your preference — portability or sheer screen real estate.

- Из плюсов — поддержка сетей 5G, возможность использовать две сим-карты одновременно и яркий экран Super AMOLED, укрепленный по технологии Gorilla Glass 3. 8 Гб оперативной памяти, мощный процессор и 256 Гб внутреннего хранилища хватит для большинства задач.
- Из минусов — хотя производители позиционируют аппарат как флагман, по своим техническим характеристикам он, скорее, сопоставим с моделями из среднего ценового сегмента, поэтому стоит ли за него переплачивать — вопрос спорный.
- Цена — от 33 тыс. рублей.

- Poco X4 Pro 5G — cмартфон от дочернего бренда китайской Xiaomi, который делает мощные устройства в бюджетном и среднебюджетном сегментах.
- Из плюсов — быстрый интернет 5G и 6 Гб оперативной памяти. Это немного меньше, чем у флагманов, но и стоит смартфон почти в 5 раз дешевле самых мощных решений на рынке. А яркий AMOLED-дисплей по качеству картинки сравним с устройствами вдвое дороже.
- Из минусов — производитель заявляет, что технология быстрой зарядки заряжает аккумулятор примерно за 45 минут. Но такая скорость, по мнению некоторых экспертов, может быстро износить батарею.
- Цена — от 23,4 тыс. рублей.

- Tecno Spark 8С — бюджетный смартфон, который подойдет для звонков, «зависания» в соцсетях и создания простых фотографий.
- Из плюсов — 6,6-дюймовый экран и 4 Гб оперативной памяти, а также емкий аккумулятор: производитель обещает 53 часа работы в режиме разговора.
- Из минусов — относительно слабая камера, передача цветов на фотографиях далека от естественной.
- Цена — от 9,3 тыс. рублей.

Китайские смартфоны уже давно конкурируют с лидерами рынка. Например, компания Xiaomi еще в июне прошлого года стала мировым лидером по продажам смартфонов, обогнав Samsung. В России в 2021 году, по данным МТС, самым продаваемым смартфоном стал Xiaomi Redmi 9A, оставив на втором месте iPhone 11.
