The 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display on the Realme GT Neo 3 is bright, sharp, colourful, and fluid. It has a 120Hz refresh rate, great for general UI browsing, web browsing, and gaming. It has HDR10+ certification, too, so watching videos on Disney+ Hotstar, Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube should be a great experience. The phone also offers a good audio experience, thanks to stereo speakers.

Out of the box, the phone uses the Vivid display mode, which adds a pinch of additional contrast and has slightly bluish whites. Most users would like this mode, but the Realme GT Neo 3’s display is more colour accurate in the Natural mode. On top of this, you can adjust the colour temperature using a slider in display settings.

The phone comes with a dedicated display processor that interpolates frames to offer higher frame rates. The optical fingerprint reader is placed a little lower than the perfect position. It is fast and reliable. It can also act as a heart rate monitor, and it performs as well as any smartwatch.

Realme GT Neo 3 display

Realme has supplied a large, good quality 6.7-inch AMOLED display for the GT Neo 3. It packs a 1080 x 2412 or FHD+ resolution, and benefits from a full 120Hz refresh rate.

This isn’t the kind of LTPO panel that you get with flagship phones, which means this refresh rate isn’t totally flexible. That’s not great news for the screen’s efficiency, but it doesn’t make a difference when it comes to sheer responsiveness, which is on point.

The GT 3’s screen upper brightness setting is fine, though it falls short of out-and-out flagship phones when in strong outdoor lighting. In all other conditions, it proves more than adequate.

There’s a responsive in-display optical fingerprint sensor towards the bottom of the device. Like the Realme 9 Pro Plus before it, this can be used as a heart rate monitor if you dive into the Realme Labs section of the Settings menu.

So far, the realme GT Neo 3 has ticked off most checkboxes when it comes to design, software and battery life and charging but how do its cameras perform?

You’ll be glad to know its cameras outperformed my expectations. When it comes to smartphone photography, Realme doesn’t disappoint and especially the GT Neo 3.

The phone comes with a main 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor with an 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro camera. We also have a 16MP selfie camera housed at the centre punch hole cutout. You’ll notice that the primary camera is the same one on the Find X5 Pro – OPPO’s flagship. The main lens has a super large sensor size that heavily improves lowlight photography. It also ships with OIS and EIS.

The camera performance is really impressive from both the main and selfie camera. The shots come out with incredible colour, sharpness, detail, dynamic range and even skin tones.

These cameras are incredible not only during the day but also when the sunsets thanks to the dedicated night mode.

Realme GT Neo 3 shots video up to 4k 60fps on the main camera and 1080p 30fps on the selfie camera.

This excellent camera performance makes the realme GT Neo 3 my favourite camera smartphone of 2023 and I loved taking shots using this phone.

Realme GT Neo 3 Review: Display

The GT Neo 3 comes with a Full HD+ AMOLED screen which is clearly one of the better screen (if not the best) Realme has offered in the Indian market. It is bright, color-accurate, and sharp. The screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate and does look really smooth while scrolling through news feeds or social timelines.

Touch response also has been top-notch thus far and I have no reasons to feel that it will change in the future. At this point, it is worth informing you that it’s not an LTPO screen so while you can select between 60Hz and 120Hz it won’t go down to 1Hz like its more premium sibling GT2 Pro.

While talking to us, Realme also explained that it has used a dedicated display processor which swings into action while gaming to offer frame interpolation to offer smoother visuals during the gameplay.

True to AMOLED characteristics, the Realme GT Neo 3 screen delivers excellent viewing angles and almost infinite contrast. There’s ample brightness so it can be viewed even in harsh sunlight. In the past couple of weeks, I thoroughly enjoyed the Realme GT Neo 3 screen as it served me well.

Realme GT Neo 3 Review: Design and Build Quality

Time and again Realme has managed to surprise us with its distinct design choices. This time the Realme GT Neo 3 follows the language established with original GT phones. It’s a good-looking smartphone that has a GT racing-inspired strip running from top to bottom on the rear panel. I have had the opportunity to look at both Nitro Blue and Sprint White color options up close in person. Of course, white being one of my favourite colors, I decided to opt for the white variant. If you don’t find the racing track-inspired strip appealing, you can check out the Asphalt Black color option with a more subdued look sans the racing stripe.

The GT Neo 3 back panel doesn’t pick up finger grease which ensures its pristine look. The rear panel also houses triple cameras sitting upon an island which makes it a little wobbly on a flat surface. Having said that, that’s also true for almost every phone on the market.

Flip to the front, and you will find it is mainly dominated by the large screen with a center punch hole for the selfie camera. In fact, it offers over 94 percent of screen to body ratio which means you will have an immersive viewing experience. The screen has Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The phone has a power button on the right and volume up and down buttons on the left edge.

One of the primary GT Neo 3 highlights for me is its light and comfortable in-hand feel as compared to other similar-sized and specced phones. Despite a tall screen and large battery it only weighs 189 grams in total. The built quality of the GT Neo 3 remains top-notch. The polycarbonate frame is solid and ensures the phone doesn’t flex under pressure. The rear panel is made of a material produced by mixing different types of glass to ensure durability doesn’t become an issue here. What about protection against water? Well, Realme shied away from taking IP certification but says it has properly sealed all the ports to ensure water doesn’t intrude that easily.

Realme generally goes with bold designs for its phones, and the Realme GT Neo 3 is no different. It has glass on the front and the rear, and its frame is made using plastic. This build is similar to most other affordable high-end phones like the OnePlus 10R and the Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro 5G. The phone feels solidly put together, and there are no creaks or flex.

There’s an almost bezel-less display at the front. The bezel on the bottom is thicker than the rest of the sides, but that’s common in this price segment. So we will give it a pass. There is an under-display fingerprint reader. At the rear, there is a camera bump that causes the phone to slightly rock when you are using it on a flat surface.

There is no IP rating, that’s what separates affordable high-end phones from true-blue flagships these days. But water splashes or raindrops shouldn’t pose a problem for the phone as most mid-range and high-end phones have basic liquid protection.

Cameras

The Realme GT Neo 3 is not a camera-centric high-end phone, but it uses a high-quality primary camera. Realme has equipped the device with a 50MP (Sony IMX766) primary camera with OIS. It’s the same sensor that’s used in the Realme GT 2 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S22. Compared to the Realme GT Neo, Realme GT Neo 2, and the Realme GT Neo 2T, the Realme GT Neo 3 uses a bigger camera sensor.

The 50MP camera captures really neat shots, thanks to the big sensor size (and native pixel size), wide aperture, and OIS. Images are clean and noise-free. The dynamic range is wide and the colours are true to life.

Even in low-light conditions, images are relatively bright, sharp, and detailed. The image quality is quite similar to the Galaxy S22+ (Review) in daylight conditions but falls a little short in lowlight conditions.

It captures good images in the Portrait mode. The subject separation is pretty accurate and the background blur effect is applied gradually. Things nearer to the camera are blurred slightly, while things far away are blurred more.

The Realme GT Neo 3 fails to capture portrait images if the subject is standing slightly far away from the camera. In comparison, the Galaxy S22+ was able to capture portrait images in a similar condition.

There’s no dedicated telephoto camera on the Realme GT Neo 3. So, the phone crops in from the main camera sensor for 2x hybrid zoom. Such zoomed-in shots are decent, especially for posting on social media or in messaging apps.

The ultrawide camera on the phone is very underwhelming. It has a resolution of just 8MP, similar to most mid-range phones. High-end phones should have 12MP or higher resolution ultrawide cameras. Expectedly, images captured using the ultrawide camera are low on details and have higher noise. The dynamic range is not as wide as the primary camera.

The front-facing camera is below par as well. The 16MP camera captures images with decent details but the colours appear washed out and the dynamic range is limited. The skin tones appear unnatural and the highlights are generally blown out. For example, the sky appears white even though it is light blue in colour.

Only the primary camera on the Realme GT Neo 3 can record 4K 60fps videos. The other cameras are limited to just 1080p 30fps. One would at least expect the ancillary cameras to support up to 4K 30fps video recording, but that’s not the case with the Realme GT Neo 3. So long as you use the primary camera to record videos, the result is pleasing (but not commendable), but as soon as you switch to the other cameras, the results are below par for the phone at this price.

Videos from the primary rear camera have great details and a wide dynamic range. Autofocus is fast and reliable. However, there’s either no EIS or the stabilisation is not very effective. There’s some judder while panning. These videos have stereo audio at 156kbps (AAC codec).

1080p videos recorded using the front-facing camera have decent details but the dynamic range is limited and there doesn’t seem to be any form of stabilisation. The audio is recorded in stereo at 256kbps (AAC codec).

Only Samsung, OPPO, and Vivo appear to be offering sub-₹40,000 phones with 4K video recording using the front-facing camera. All other brands are offering 4K videos only on their flagship/premium high-end phones.

Internals and Performance

The heart of the realme GT Neo 3 is a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset based on 5nm processing and believe me, it is a superb system on chip for this device (or any device for that matter). Most tech bloggers would agree with me that the Dimensity series from MediaTek is the main contender against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series. I kid you not because the Dimensity 8100 on the realme GT Neo 3 is a beast. 

Scoring 818585 on Aututu 3D Benchmark placed the realme GT Neo 3 near the top of the table. It is within the same range of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 series which scores slightly higher depending on the phone model and software optimisations. But for it to break the 800k mark is simply amazing. Take note that the Dimensity 8000 series is only a mid-range chipset whereas the Dimensity 9000 series is the flagship chipset. 

To support the demanding power from the SoC, the realme GT Neo 3 comes with 8GB of RAM with the option to increase up to 5GB additional memory via the RAM expansion settings. You will also get a minimum of 128GB of storage that goes all the way up to 512GB for the highest spec version. And it comes with Android 12 and a possible update to Android 13 later on.

And to power it all up, the realme GT Neo 3 comes with a 5000mAh Li-Po battery with fast-charging capabilities up to 80W and goes from zero to 100% in only 32 minutes. That is pretty impressive if you ask me. I also did a test whereby I only have 5% of juice left and I plug the fast charger in for 5 minutes. It immediately went up close to 30% and with that amount of battery, it lasted me about half a day with normal usage.

Чтобы усовершенствовать многозадачность, разработчики интегрировали в оболочку ряд полезных функций, но ни одну из них нельзя назвать особенно новой. Любое приложение можно минимизировать в плавающее окно – сейчас оно называется flexible («гибкий», «эластичный»), поскольку его размер очень легко изменить на ходу. Вы можете осуществлять обмен файлами между полноэкранными и «гибкими» приложениями путем перетаскивания. «Гибкие» окна доступны как в менеджере задач, так и боковой панели. Кроме того, вы можете воспользоваться функциями разделения экрана (Split Screen) или «умной» боковой панели (Smart Sidebar). Смартфон оснащен подэкранным сканером отпечатков пальцев, который отличается быстротой и точностью. Но компания использует датчик не только для идентификации владельца. Если после разблокировки продолжать удерживать палец, то появится заранее заданный набор ярлыков для запуска приложений или для совершения определенных действий. The Realme GT Neo 3 gets our recommendation over the OnePlus 10R, Motorola Edge 20 Pro, Realme GT 2, and the Xiaomi 11T Pro. The phone has a bold design, a sublime screen, excellent sustained performance, feature-rich software, good battery life, and unbelievably fast charging speeds. It lacks an IP rating and its ancillary cameras are a letdown, though.

Realme GT Neo 3 software

The Realme GT Neo 3 runs on Android 12 with Realme’s own custom Realme UI 3.0 on top. It’s the exact same interface we ran through in the Realme 9 Pro Plus, so it comes with the same warnings about bloatware.

You get the same preinstalled offering of Amazon Shopping, Booking.com, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn. It would have been nice to have these presented as a choice during the installation process, but it’s far from the most egregious examples of front-loading such apps that we’ve seen.

The Android 12 side of things provides a limited Wallpaper theming element, but it’s not exactly Material You as experienced on the Pixel 6. For all its customization options, Realme UI 3.0 can feel almost old-fashioned compared to stock Android and iOS.

In general, though, there’s little to complain about with Realme UI 3.0 on the Realme GT Neo 3. It’s relatively clean, it runs well at the full 120Hz refresh rate, and it leaves the Google Feed and app tray provisions exactly where they should be.
